ASK FOR HELP
It is important to remember that you do not need to be an expert on the topic of environmental toxins and that you likely will have questions you can't answer. Furthermore, there may be times where a patient's exposure is beyond that of the low level we all face daily and you need to enlist the help of specialists who can dedicate more time and knowledge to this aspect of a patient's care. Find a practitioner through the the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, the national network of Pediatric Environmental Health Specialty Units, or your local networks that can see patients requiring specialty care or with whom you can consult. Certain patients may also have a greater interest in the topic of environmental health and may want to see a practitioner who can perform a more thorough evaluation and make targeted recommendations.
